A lot of disorders arise from not eating right and a good number of them don’t even manifest until they have caused a lot of damages. Eating right, not only help you stay healthy, it helps you psychologically and financially. Financially? Yes, as you are about to find out in this article. How Do You Know You Are Eating Right?

Observe and listen to the subtle messages sent to you by your body. Whether our body is healthy or not, we get messages from our body but often times, we don’t listen. Likewise, if we are eating right or not eating right, we get messages from our body too.
Here are five key signs to know you are eating right;

1. On Top Of Your Game All Day
Eating right gives you energy and makes you stay mentally active all-day. This is a fact and I have found this to be true by observing myself and other people in my workplace too. It is one of the reasons you should not  miss your breakfast ever again. You have enough energy throughout the day if your diet is fulfilling your needs and work requirements. Too much coffee consumption too can be implicated in this as you can have a crash or breakdown of energy towards the middle of or later on the day.

2.  You Sleep Well At Night
A lot of things, including diet can keep you awake or make you have sleeps in which you wake up frequently. When you have these kind of nights, you wake up tired in the morning. When you don’t sleep well at night, a lot of things can cause this but a good way to start checking is your diet. What kind of food do you eat in the day and towards bedtime? What is the space between the time you eat and time you go to bed? These are good questions to ask?

3. You Don’t Have Mood Swings
Yes, when you have even mood, then you can be sure you are eating right. Although, mood swings can be caused by other factors, when you have even mood, you are eating right. Having said this, when you have mood swings or anxiety and have eliminated other possibilities, or starting to check what the possibilities are, you may want to check your diet. Too much of foods such as sugar, alcohol, caffeinated coffee, etc., can cause mood swings and anxiety.

Not literally as stated in the title because people go to the toilet to smoke sometimes. Going to the toilet here means you actually go to the toilet to do what the toilet is designed for.
This is avery good sign you are eating right and including the right amount of fibers in your diet, they turn your bowel often and make you go do the dump.

I mentioned at the beginning of this article that eating right saves you money and yes, it is true. You are not eating right if you eat at restaurants and eateries. These foods have been implicated in a lot of conditions and food poisoning cases. Cooking at home will not only give you quality and safe food but also saves you more money.

Migraines—searing headaches that feel like a hammer to the inside of the skull—can strike anyone, but they predominantly affect women, who are up to four times more likely than men to get them. What causes them, and why they impact women more, remains unclear, but a pair of new studies adds urgency to the need to find better methods of treatment.

One new study published Tuesday in the journal The BMJ found that women who get migraines are also more likely to develop heart conditions like heart attacks and strokes, and are also slightly more likely to die from them compared to women who do not regularly get migraines.

The researchers looked at data of 115,51 women between the ages of 25 to 42 who were part of the Nurses’ Health Study II.

The women were then followed for 22 years, and the researchers looked for whether they experienced heart complications. About 15% of the women in the study reported having migraines, and these women were 50% more likely to have a serious heart event compared to women without migraines. Based on the results, the researchers argue migraines should be considered as a risk factor for heart disease.

Eating late at night is not a complete no-no as it is important to eat when you are hungry; you just have to be smart about it.

Contrary to popular belief, eating late at night does not necessarily make you add weight nor does it have any negative health implications. Eating the wrong foods with the wrong number of calories is what brings on all the extra weight and most times disrupts your sleep.

1. Ewa Agoyin

While the soup is made with vegetable and spices, Amala is made with yam powder. They both form an appetizing combo, however, can be unfavorable to your stomach when consumed late in the night. Although the meal digests very easily, compared to other yam-based meals, it is urine inducing and can bring a lot of interruptions and discomfort to your sleep

4. Agege Bread
This would be easy to buy off of the streets if you getting back late and you know you would not have the energy to cook or microwave any major meal when you get home because it would be too late already. While Agege bread would be satisfying when eaten with tea, mayonnaise or butter late in the night, it contains a lot of carbohydrate and sugar that spikes up your blood sugar levels, causing your energy levels to spike and plummet, disrupting your sleep in the process. There is also a chance that you will likely wake up starving a few hours later or in the morning due to the overproduction of insulin the sugar triggers.

5. Fries (yam, potatoes, akara)
If you have had dinner by 7 pm and you are still awake by 12pm and you are hungry, you may want to indulge in light finger food. The go to would be fried yam, plantain , potatoes or even akara. While this food may seem like a light meal, they actually are not. They are greasy heavy foods! They weigh on your stomach and take a while to digest, leaving you feeling tired and sluggish in the morning. Also, they do more harm to your sleep than good. You may have to deal with stomach pains, cramps, abdominal bloating, heartburn, and acid reflux, resulting in poor sleep quality.

The need for proper nutrition will help individuals within this age bracket look and feel their best. The consumption of a healthy diet definitely increases ones life expectancy by reducing the risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity among other diseases.

The importance of proper weight control is also critical for 40 years old and above since most diseases are associated with weight gain. It is also of note to consume these foods that will be highlighted below moderately and at recommended daily intake.

1.Fortified Skimmed Milk:
On the day of your 40th birthday, you are probably feeling as young as ever but the truth is things within your system are beginning to take a new shape and you must respond appropriately. Most people as young adults indulge in whole milk which are loaded with fats and these people continue unknowingly over the age of 40. It is impossible to exclude fat from any healthy diet combination but you must begin to reduce them from hidden sources.
Consume skimmed milk (Milk that fat had been removed  from)as a way of reducing your daily fat intake. I indicated “fortified” because during removal of fats, some essential nutrients must have been lost; so there is need for those nutrients to included via fortification.

2. Garlic And Ginger:
For me, the combination of these natural food additives is critical for an improved immune system more than any other food for any age group. I remembered when my mum was battling with increased blood pressure, after a proper menu had been prepared for her, I was quick to inform her to include both garlic and ginger into her soups and stews.
In fact, she swallows some diced garlic at night as prescribe by me. Now, she is free from the situation. Subsequent tests revealed normal blood pressure. Asides this, these foods are both loaded with antibacterial compounds.

3. Fruits And Green Vegetables:
We can not over-emphasise the need to include this category of foods into anyone’s diet. For those in their 40s, it is essential to say that not all fruits and vegetables will be appropriate to be included into their diet. At 40 years, a lot of people are unknowingly diabetic. Advising such an individual to consume pineapple which has a high glycemic index may be counterproductive.
People in this age should consume green vegetables, cucumber, garden eggs, carrots and other fruits and veggies with known low glycemic index. It is advisable to speak with your doctor to know your health status and dietician to plan a menu for you

4. Calcium Rich Foods
Osteoporosis is a serious condition that begins to set in majorly at age 40. This is usually due to the low bone density. A healthy bone can help against bone related conditons. Foods rich in calcium include spinach, soybeans, dairy products like milk and yoghurt (be cautious about the dairy products). Including only calcium rich foods might not solve the problem.
Getting enoughvitamin Dis very critical as the body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium for proper body function. Not getting enough of these leads to fragile bones which is usually worsen by weight gain causing arthritis. Supplementation is also available but do not result to self help. Ensure you speak with a certified professional.

5. Fish
Well, this is not to say that you cannot consume meats again but fish should be your primary source of protein. The need to obtain omega 3 fatty acid for proper cell functioning at this age cannot be over emphasized. Scaly seas fish and crabs are found to be quite healthy.
I do advice some of my patients who had crossed this age line to reduce deep fat fried foods. The strength of their bodies to process or digest foods had reduced. It is best to enjoy your fish without frying. Fresh fish pepper soup is acceptable.

We ectomorphs have been truly blessed by God. We can fit into tiny spaces, dancing comes naturally and the most fun fact of all…, we can actually eat like an ogre and not gain any weight. Who’s to blame? Our crazy super-fast metabolism or nature?

It’s quite annoying when many people think we are anorexic or starving, many of us have been called skinny so much that we have incorporated it as a name. If you still can’t decide if it’s a blessing or a curse, shut off that thought for a while, here are the major skinny people problems;

1. People (especially parents) are always asking if you’re eating properly.

2. Whenever you go home, your mum is constantly trying to make you eat

3. You still wear your high school bra

4. You buy the smallest adult sizes of clothes

5. Family friends are always asking your parents if you’re ill

6. Being Skinny makes your feet look long

7. People are always picking on you and testing their strength on you

8. You sign up for a gym, you exercise your life out, yet you only lose more weight.

9.  Inability to freely take off your shirt when at the beach.

10. For some reason, being skinny makes you less graceful when it comes to dancing

11. Most clothes meant to bring out curves, don’t fit properly.

12. People tend to see you as incapable of handling stressful things

13. You’re always being labeled with names like thread, broom stick, tooth pick etc.

14. The time taken to put on and pull off your skinny trousers is exhausting.

15. Your wrist watch and bracelet need super adjustment because you’re skinny.

16. You definitely have to make extra holes in almost every belt you wear.

17. Clothes can be a nightmare. You find trousers with the right waist, but the length is always a few inches short. You probably will have to visit the tailor to readjust all your clothes (can’t say about underwear though).

18. Just because of your size, you’re always being asked to squeeze through gaps that other people can’t get in.

19. Lacking natural insulation means you’re always cold, which is really annoying but not as annoying as people pointing out how skinny you are.

20. When it comes to food, it’s always a dilemma between being served too little because people think you don’t eat much or being served too much because they think you need to eat.
