After having an extremely reputable father in the law sector like Femi Falana, one would think that his son, Folarin Falana, would simply take after him and continue on the ‘lawful’ path his father treaded on. However, Folarin’s story is different as he switched from being a lawyer into a ‘Bahd Guy’!… Better known by his stage moniker, Falz, Folarin is nothing like his father, and even though he read law too, he pursued music instead, which he claims has always being his passion from the onset.

In a recent interview with ShaidysWorld, Falz opened up on a whole lot, including- his personal life, his type of music, his love life, amongst others.

Read the interview below…

Q 1; Briefly tell us about you ( Name, Family and state of origin)

Ans; My real name is Folarin Falana, popularly known as FalzThaBadGuy, from Ekiti State, Nigeria. Born and raised in lagos ,Nigeria.

Q 2; Where did you school?

Ans; you see in terms of my educational Background generallly speaking people often doubt my qualification but I will have you know that i have a lot of certificates, but the most recent of all is my certificate of ‘Call to Bar’. I am a practising Barrister called to Nigeria Bar after attending Law School in Abuja, before I went to the University of Reading in the UK. My Secondary school education was in Olashore international school Osun State.

Q 3; You read law and qualified as a Barrister, but what inspired you to drop what you studied for music?

Ans; It’s a matter of passion. When you have a passion for something, you simply go for it. It’s not that I don’t like the legal profession, I mean, law is a wonderful and prestigious profession, and if I had followed that line I will still be successful, why? because I have the brains. But music is my real passion, it’s something I love to do so much. I really enjoy myself anytime I’m writing/recording music and performing on the stage. When you know something that gives you maximum satisfaction, there is no way you wouldn’t follow your heart and that is why I’m here today.

Q 4; If you aren’t doing music or practising law, what else would you rather find yourself doing ?

Ans; Well, apart from music and law, if there’s something else I’d want to do professionally it’d be being a professional Footballer. I really like sports and football in particular and I believe so much in my skills as well. I think I’m capable of playing professionally, but the problem is that the Super Eagles were supposed to sign me but they missed their chance, they missed their opportunity but it’s so unfortunate for them… Lol

Q 5; You seem to have quite a large numbers of viewers on youtube and other plartforms because of your comical and humorous videos/skits, what inspires the ideas and concepts behind them?

Ans; the skits are just comical in nature, i can not necessarily call myself a comedian but i like to say I could be comical, because all this things I do are, of course, funny stuffs but generally speaking, what really inspires me is just life around me. I have a lot of local people in my surrounding and i just tap into the anointing and then just try to xpress myself and you know that’s what is always the end result of it.. Yezz!!.

Q 6; Is Falz in a relationship?

Ans; Well, in terms of relationship issues, I want to keep that one aside for now because relationships could be a distraction. When somebody loves a woman so much, he abandons his work and I don’t want that to be my story. So the matter of relationship is to one side. I’m still single and I dont have anybody.

Q 7; So should we tag you (SSS) Single and Seriously Searching or (SRM) Single and Ready to Mingle?

Ans; I’m not neccessarily searching and not searching doesn’t neccessarily mean that I’m not ready to mingle, we can still mingle and catch fun together and who knows somebody may just capture my heart, so i may be over here saying I’m not searching and somebody may be out there just planning for me and by the time they capture me like this i will just become love struck.. So, what can i do when it happens?

Q 8; You did a song with Yemi Alade “Marry Me” do you have any intention of getting married soon?

Ans; Marriage! Marriage is a very serious stuff and one can not just jump into it like that, so when people ask me of marriage plans and stuff i just tell them God’s time is the best time. At this moment, i dont want to jump into it. I believe that whenever God says it will be, it will be.

Q 9; How do you like your girl/girls – Tall or Short, dark or light-skinned, big or small?

Ans; To be completely honest, her statue is not neccessarily particular, but somebody who is very intelligent, somebody with a wonderful sense of humor, etc.. These are the things i really look out for in a woman, but in terms of preference generally, i think i like the light skinned girls but this doesn’t neccessarily mean that there is no hope for dark skinned girls and it dosen’t mean that you should go and bleach.

Q 10; Tell us more about your latest song ‘Karashika’

Ans; ‘Karashika is a name that we built from an old nollywood movie. If you remember, it was such a scary movie and it really tormented me in my childhood back then. I was so afraid that anytime i watched it, i won’t be able to go any where alone back then, so i remember it to be so scary. So we picked it and we made that ‘Karashika’ to be the figurative expression for any body in this life that may have an appearance of witchcraft or anything or just anybody that may trying to bring you down – that is the meaning of that ‘Karashika’.

Q 11; If you had to date a Nigerian celebrity, who would it be and why?

Ans; wow! wow!! wow! maybe Chidinma or Yemi Alade, please don’t forget these are beautiful Girls and i will like to date them.

Q 12; what do you like about Chidinma

Ans; she’s very pretty, she very petite and there’s a ‘cutieness’ and ‘sweetieness’ about her and that what’s attractive about her, although we have not yet neccessarily flowed to that level for me to know whats inside her, but I’m only speaking from the outside.. That’s it.

Q 14; what about Yemi Alade

Ans; Yemi Alade is also beautiful and if you look at her physique i swear one can not deny that, infact thats a wonderful lady but you know, its not that we know each other to that extent that i can say these are what will make me want to date her, I’m only speaking based on the looks.

Q 15; Weirdest thing you’ve ever done?
Ans; Well one time i ate antelope meat, its a bit strange to me its not normal but it actually taste very nice, so we mixed it with palmwine and it went down so nicely. If you are out there and you’ve never tasted Antelope meat with palm wine, then i think you should try it today… Trust me you will like it!

Q 16; How many people have you done music with in the Entertainment industry?

Ans; wow! I’ve worked with alot of people on my first album. I have released an album and a lot of people might not know that, but i put out my debut album last year, 2014 and on that album I worked with the likes of Olamide, Zion, Show Dem Camp, Oyinkansola, Phyno… mehn! a whole bunch of guys, so there were a lot of people on that album and very recently, I put out ‘Karashika’ featuring Phyno and Chigal. I have worked with alot of other people but they are unreleased materials and I dont want to announce untill then so please wait for other Collaborations coming soon.

Q 17; Describe your style of music in one word?

Ans; My style of music in one word is “Distinct” because everything inside my music sets me apart from everybody else, now if you listen to my records you will not understand the angle am coming from because its something that you will be like- who is this guy, what really happened to him and why is he doing like this , But that is my own style that is the approach, alot of my Lyrical content is laced with alot of humor, alot of funny oriki and stuffs but if you listen more deeply, listen beyond that humor, there’s always a strong message in every record but some people will not listen beyond the humor, Why? because they are catching fun, laughing at all the Lyrical content and stuff but if you still listen beyond that, you’d always be able to pick something and that is what i stand for in my music, i have my own Genre of music too and its call ‘Wotzupmusic ‘

Q18; How and why did you come up with the name ‘Falz The Bahd Guy’?

Ans; The name ‘Falz The Bahd Guy’ generally speaking is just a title that they give me when you say somebody is a bad guy.. You know that there is something about him that is so strong, something about his character that is so strong and that is why they have to call him the Bad Guy, but my own Bad guy actually has an acronym because i spelt it BAHD “Brilliant and Highly Distinct” so thats the kind of Guy that i am exactly.

Q 19; What is the most treasured gift life has given to you?

Ans; The opportunity to chase my dreams, I think there’s nothing that surpasses that, for someone to have that satisfaction of been able to achieve what they’ve always dreamt to be, that is the most treasured gift that life has given to me.

Q 20; Falz’ Top 5 best female Artist in Nigeria
