Beauty Tips

No matter your skin type, you’ve probably had some issues with breakouts, moisturizing and pores. But when it comes to dealing with oily skin, you’re likely dealing with more than a shiny nose.

Oil flare-ups can lead to clogged pores and acne, especially if your
cleansing habits aren’t in check. Excess oil production can be caused
by a number of things from weather to stress and even your menstrual

The hormone DHT triggers your glands to produce more sebum and a spike in this hormone means a slick and oily surface. But all is not lost! Stop making these five oily skin blunders and you, too, can have a fresh face.

1. Using harsh cleansers – Products like astringents and alcohol-infused cleansers can irritate the skin which can result in acne . Use a foaming gel cleanser that contains salicylic acid and make sure it is
sulfate-free to avoid further irritation and dryness.

2. Not using moisturizer – We get that you probably don’t see the need to add a layer of hydration to your skin, but it’s no reason to write it off. Skin cells need water to live and stay healthy, so it’s
crucial to add that hydration and remember to look for a formula that
is light and non-comedogenic or oil-free.

3. Missing out on makeup – Cosmetics are fun and oily skin is no excuse to skip them. All you have to do is shop smart: Look for
makeup products that are oil-free and contain salicylic acid , which helps get rid of any build-up in pores and wash your face before bed.

4. Exfoliating too much – Physical exfoliation, like using a scrub with
microbeads or using a facial brush, can be very abrasive on the skin  and doing this more than once a week will make your skin go crazy. Skip the scrubbing altogether and use a chemical exfoliant that has AHAs and BHAs for a gentle and more effective result.

5. Being afraid of oil – Not all oils are the  same. Don’t be afraid of the word “oil” in some moisturizers, creams and lotions. Jojoba and argan oils are used in many products to help with nourishing benefits and are non- comedogenic, so they get a pass.
