Justin Bieber has a complicated relationship with his fans. After a social media drama with his ex Selena Gomez back in August, he deleted his Instagram because his fans and Gomez’s wouldn’t stop posting nasty comments about his girlfriend Sofia Richie. And last week he walked off… Stormed rather off stage in the middle of a concert in Manchester, England on Sunday because he couldn’t get his fans to stop screaming. A week later, he published a letter about the incident which he subsequently deleted
In a since deleted tweet the singer wrote, “People tend to want to shut you down. What I mean by that is … people try to twist things, some people don’t want to listen,” he said. “But I simply feel like, if I didn’t use this platform to say how I truly feel, and if I didn’t use this platform to be the man that I know I am, and speak from what’s in my heart, then I’m doing myself injustice, and I’m not doing anybody in this audience any justice.”
He continued, “There’s going to be times where I say the wrong thing, because I’m human. But I don’t pretend to be perfect and I hope to God that, you know, I don’t say the right thing all the time because if that was the case then I’d be a robot, and I’m just, I’m not a robot. There’s times when I get upset … times when I get angry, there’s times when I’m going to be frustrated. But I’m always going to be myself on this stage.”
After leaving the stage last week, Bieber later returned and explained to the crowd, “So the reason why I got upset is because I traveled across the whole world to come here and I dedicated my life to this. I dedicated my life to performing, I dedicate my life to bringing smiles to people’s faces, and I feel like people just aren’t giving me the same respect back, and courtesy. That’s all.”
He had a similar incident at an earlier concert in Birmingham, where, try as he might, he couldn’t get the audience to chill. “Can you guys do me a favor? Can you guys just relax for about two seconds?” he said. “I get it, I get it, but I’m like two feet away from you. And I can hear you. I appreciate all the love, it’s amazing. But can you show it in a different way? Screaming is just so obnoxious.”
So, okay, he doesn’t want to have to strain to be heard over the roar of a giant crowd. That’s reasonable. The normal celebrity experience is this: everyone is so excited to see you, to catch just a glimpse, to hear just a measure of a hit song, that no one takes the time to listen because they’re all too busy screaming.
I think Bieber needs to take a break off tour and get himself together.
